Lots of feels. Lots of fun. Lots of surprises. But more importantly, shot candidly and with love.

FAQs.

  • Super 8 is an analog video technology that was introduced by Kodak in the 1960s. It has a very distinct analog look with inherent light leaks, heavy grain, little pieces of dust, and sprocket holes. As it is shot on film stocks and without any sound, it encourages a focus on composition, efficient storytelling, and careful planning. Plus, the unpredictable nature of the analog process adds a unique and irreplaceable charm to the final product.

Back in the day, this technology was marketed to amateur filmmakers, and it became extremely popular for the creation of family memories. This is explains why Super 8 films carries a deep sense of nostalgia, evoking memories of family gatherings and childhood aventures. Your parents and grand-parents might have fond memories of it, and they may even have a few films stored in a box somewhere around the house!

More recently, Super 8 films have seen a resurgence amongst the analog and documentary photographers/filmmakers community for those exact reasons. However, with the ever-rising price of of film stocks and developing processes, and due to the scarcity of resources needed to bring a Super 8 film to life, it really became a luxury product - best handled by experienced storytellers.

  • Keep in mind that my Super 8 short films are shot without any sound, on film stocks that will provide approximately 2 minutes of footage each. This encourages a focus on composition, efficient storytelling, and, more importantly, careful planning. I go for a mix of intentional scenes and fun, in-between moments. On your end, it encourages you to be completely in the moment and play along!

  • Obviously, you need to love the distinct and nostalgic look of Super 8 films. Bure more than that, it also needs to fit your personalities and vision.

I believe that Super 8 films are best suited for those who are not interested in the traditional way of doing things, and who are willing to let go of expectations to enjoy their moment to the fullest. You need to be okway wih the fact that, like any other analog technology, Super 8mm comes with its set of limitations, unpredictability being the main one (limited shooting time, old and somewhat unreliable equipment, no control over the developing process, etc.). However, embracing these risks often bring high rewards - that is a beautiful, unique, authentic and nostalgic collection of fond memories.

This said, if you prefer to go a more traditional route, I’m always happy to refer you to talented wedding videographers and filmmakers.

  • Your footage will be processed and scanned by top-tier labs. I will then personally select and edit the final film (3-5, depending on your coverage time) and pair it with music, to curate a storyline that represents you best. The short film, along with a few still images pulled from it, will be remitted to you via an online gallery.

  • Generally speaking, I offer Super 8 coverage as an add-on to a two-photographers package. This allows to put all my energy and focus into photography. In this case, I pair-up with a colleague experienced both documentary photography and Super 8 coverage. This said, I do offer Super 8 coverage myself from time-to-time, to couples who are planning an intimate celebration and who love the magic analog has to offer.

  • Of course, it would be an absolute pleasure! I offer a few Super 8-only wedding coverage per season.
